---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Mon, 23 Jun 1997 22:58:48 -0700 From: Gary M Klein (bear-at-heart) <gklein@WILLAMETTE.EDU> Subject: out of the stacks & into the streets: SFO gay pride parade Since the upcoming conference of the American Library Association is being held in San Francisco, June 27--July 2, there will be some overlap on Sunday June 29 between ALA's conference, and San Francisco's annual gay pride parade. The parade will travel from west to east on Market Street. Parade and contingent assembly will take place in the Civic Center area. The Parade will travel on Market from about 9th Street toward the Embarcadero (The Ferry Building). The official "starting time" of the "San Francisco Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Pride Parade & Celebration" is 11am on Sunday, JUNE 29th. Please note that many parade participants start congregating at their assigned spots a lot earlier than 11am! Drawing about 300,000 participants each year to San Francisco's Market Street, the gay pride parade will make navigating Market Street difficult for ALA attendees who are moving back & forth between conference presentations. RATHER THAN fighting the traffic, how about joining up with ALA members who invite you to enjoy the parade! After all, ALA's Gay Lesbian & Bisexual Task Force is an official entrant in the pride parade. All librarians are welcome to join ALA's brigade and march down Market Street with our banner! OUT OF THE STACKS, AND INTO THE STREETS: LIBRARIANS EMPOWER PEOPLE! You can either watch the parade from the sidelines of Market Street, or you can locate a map, and maneuver over to ALA's starting spot, and join in with other librarians from across the continent who will marching in this pride parade. Althought the parade starts moving at 11am, with hundreds of thousands of participants, it takes a while before all the groups get rolling down Market Street. ALA's brigade is estimated to hit the pavement around Noon. Here is where you can find us: AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION's Gay Lesbian Bisexual Task Force & SAN FRANCISCO PUBLIC LIBRARY contingent color=BLUE "v" on McAllister between Post & Larkin (near the old SFPL building) Bring sunglasses and big voices to help us chant our way down Market Street!
