The individual appointed to this position will be a ssigned to the Library Documents and Periodicals section. Library Specialists are generally responsible to develop and maintain specialized collections, answer reference questions and advise readers on the use of the collections. They also review collections to determine the need for new materials or updating ex isting materials or for withdrawing out-of-date materials. In addition, they compile bibliographies and book lists, handle interlibrary reference requests, work with library employees to provide coordinated program of library services, assist parents and teachers, train staff and make presentations before community groups and employees. ---------------------- Minimum Qualifications ---------------------- Education: Possession of a graduate degree from a school of librarianship accredited by the American Library Association. Experience: Two years of full-time or its equivalent professional library experience. --------------- Filing Deadline --------------- A completed Contra Costa County Application must be received or postmarked by July 11, 1997. LIBRARIAN Salary Range: $2770 - $3537 (7 steps) ------------ The Position ------------ The Contra Costa County Library is recruiting Librarians for a variety of responsible and challenging library service assignments. Permanent full-time, permanent part-time, and permanent intermittent (on-call substitute) vacancies may be filled from the r esults of this continuous examination. New Librarians receive training in all aspects of the County Library's operation, services and programs, as well as in-depth training in their specific assignment. The County Library operates eighteen (18) branches, the Central Library, and four (4) outlets. The County Library serves over 800,000 urban and rural patrons within a 750 square mile area. Department staffing is 280 and annual system circulation exceeds t hree and a half (3.5) million.
