We want to be able to delete titles easily in the > event of cancellation of a subscription. Rather than searching OCLC > and exporting MARC records if available or doing full original cataloging, The first thing we did was to create a program that would compare our catalog holdings (by issn or OCLC, depending on which is provided on the web page list of e-journals) with those on the web page. We have a student who is like Einstein with computers. I think he heavily relied on Microsoft's Access. Once we determined all the matches, another program inserted public notes into our catalog pointing to the electronic journals - at this time our catalog software does not support linking through 856 fields. The first program also listed all issn's or OCLC numbers that did not have matches in our catalog. So, we downloaded all of these and created copy records for them with a public note - this last part was all done manually (by yours truly) > we propose the creation of a local record with a minimal number of fields > necessary to direct the user to the online services where that journal is > found. So I am very interested in hearing how you deal with electronic journals in your library as well as other libraries. So if you receive any email regarding to your question, would you please send me a copy? Thank you very much.
