I check that the proper format and guidelines are followed. I then send them to the bindery and to UMI for microfilming. The student pays all fees. Some depts. that request a copy do pay for it themselves. Otherwise students pay for all copies, even for the library copies. The library pays to have these copies bound. We get the original and a copy. The third copy to return the Graduate Office free of charge. The only ones the students pay for are personal copies. Hope this answers your question. At the State University of New York at Buffalo, Central Technical Services, the following applies: Master's Bound copies (2 copies) come to us from Graduate School. We have no contact with the student. I assume that the student pays for the binding. Doctoral Unbound copy (1 copy) is sent to UMI by the Graduate School. We have no contact with the student. After UMI completes its work, the unbound copy is sent directly to us (CTS). We bind at our expense. ************************************************************************* Judith Hopkins Phone: 716 645-2796 Central Technical Services FAX: 716 645-5955 University at Buffalo E-mail: ulcjh@acsu.buffalo.edu Buffalo, NY 14260-2200 http://www.acsu.buffalo.edu/~ulcjh Listowner of AUTOCAT@LISTSERV.ACSU.BUFFALO.EDU (http://ublib.buffalo.edu/libraries/units/cts/autocat) The views expressed are my own and not those of the University or the University Libraries.
