Looking over the responses to the problem of unpublished issues, I was
struck by the fact that some believe that the patron doesn't need/want to
know about unpublished issues. While it is true, especially in academic
libraries and with scholarly journals, that patrons are usually looking
for specific citations (and there won't be, or at least *shouldn't be*,
citations to non-existant issues), patrons do also browse, and may well
want to know what happened to a "missing issue." When they come with
this complaint to the reference librarian, at least s/he will know where
to go for the answer -- the 515 and/or 310 fields (hopefully, both will
display to the reader also).
