Number 4176, dated December 1, 1997 is the most recent issue we have
received. Sometimes our issues do not arrive in perfect numeric sequence
because of mail problems, but they have arrived faithfully all year long.
I hope your vendor can find the missing issues for you.

The Marshall Law Library, University of Maryland, received the following
letter from the publishers of West Africa, dated Nov. 18, 1997:

"Disruption in overseas subscriptions.

Further to your recent complaint regarding the disruption of supply and
missing issues of WEST AFRICA magazine, I write to inform you that we are
experiencing some difficulties with all our overseas subscriptionks due to
internal problems that are taking longer to overcome than we had
originally anticipated.

A Policy Statement regarding this and the question of crediting those who
may not require back copies will be sent out to you very shortly by the
General Manager of the company, Mr. Kaye Whiteman.

In the meantime, I would like to apologise profusely to every Subscriber
and Subscriptions Agent for the inconvenience and to state categorically
that anyone not requiring back copies would have their account credited
from the most current issue nearest to the date that supply is resumed.

Please kindly bear with us as nobody would be expected to lose out on
their subscriptions.

Best wishes,

Danny Idollor
Sales Manager

So far, we've received no refund, no letter of explanation from the
General Manager. On November 3, 1997 we received the May 5, 1997 issue!

Not sure this is much comfort, but perhaps this helps a little.

Joyce and others intersted parties:

We have been receiving issues of West Africe for most of 1997. The latest
issue I have is #4177 (Dec. 8, 1997). I can't understand why it still
comes when so many other people have problems with it. We missed issues
between December 1996 and January 1997, but our subscription agent (EBSCO)
was able to get the issues started again in February. We've only missed
one issue since then!

Good luck in getting your issues!

Happy Holidays!
