SENIOR SUBJECT SPECIALIST - Librarian 2 Catalog Division Indiana State Library Indianapolis, IN RESPONSIBILITIES: The Senior Subject Specialist of the Catalog Division provides leadership in coordinating the Division's policies and procedures to meet the challenge created by automation and technology as applied to the State Library's special and unique collections, limited staff, and restrictive budget. Reporting to the Associate Director of Public and Support Services, the Senior Subject Specialist of the Catalog Division will represent the Division to the Library Administration and will actively collaborate with the Senior Subject Specialists of other Divisions to further the Library's mission and goals. DUTIES: Coordinate a staff of 4 professional librarians and 3 support staff; analyze, formulate, and effect cataloging and classification policies and procedures with regard to: all aspects of OCLC use, and card catalogs and online public access catalog maintenance; perform related administrative tasks including planning and directing special projects, report writing, serving on library task forces and committees; perform original cataloging and revision of OCLC member input cataloging for both monographs and serials in all OCLC formats; assist in authority maintenance of online public access catalog. QUALIFICATIONS: ALA/MLS; minimum 6 years post graduate cataloging experience with monographs and serials; familiarity with library acquisition procedures and practices; demonstrated administrative planning, leadership, analytic, interpersonal, and communication skills; thorough understanding of national cataloging standards, bibliographic record structure, issues and trends in technical services operations; knowledge of/experience with OCLC and local online systems (preferably DRA); current knowledge of all principles and procedures of bibliographic information including AACR2 Revised, all MARC formats, LC Subject Headings, Dewey Decimal Classification, Library of Congress Classification, Superintendent of Documents Classification, and bibliographic verification tools; familiarity with the use of microcomputers and their applications; a record of initiative and achievement in fostering and implementing change in a highly automated technical services environment is preferred. STARTING SALARY: $27,229.00 BENEFITS: Group insurance plans for health, dental, life, vision, and disability; Public Employee Retirement Fund; Social Security; Credit Union; one day of vacation per month; nine days of sick leave and three days of personal leave per year.
