I haven't seen Motor age, but two other former Chilton's, and now
Cahner's, titles are Food engineering and Food engineering international.
These were cataloged under Chilton's food engineering, and: Chilton's food
engineering international. Now the cover titles are <smaller>Cahners
</smaller><bigger>Food enginering and </bigger>Cahners <bigger>Food
engineering international.</bigger> I have not checked back issues of
these journals, but from looking at very recent issues, it seems that both
could be given "At head of title notes" and recataloged under the
distinctive portion of the title.

245 00 Food engineering.
246 3 Chilton's food engineering
246 3 Cahners food engineering

500 At head of title: -May 1998, Chiltons; June 1988- Cahners.

And similarly, for Food engineering international.

Would this be cataloging heresy, or could a CONSER library look into
revising the existing bibliographic records?

Please compile the answers you receive for the rest of us. I have
almost decided to use MOTOR AGE as the title, with the other two
titles as added entries. That's how patrons request it. What does LC
do? There must be some rule on this.

Janie,
I have been at General Motors for four years and we have (since before I
got here) shelved and have cataloged Motor Age as Motor Age. I don't
really know if this is not correct, but our customers seem to have no
problems.
