MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES

POSITION:  SERIALS LIBRARIAN

The Mississippi State University Libraries seek applications for an
Instructor level position for Serials Librarian.  Duties include
assisting in the day to day management of the Serials Department
relating to searching, ordering, receiving, claiming, binding and
fiscal control of serials in all formats.  Plans, sets goals and
monitors work flow. Works with the serials check in staff to assure
the timely access of materials with direct responsibility for
monitoring the claiming function.  Monitors library student wage
budget.  Works closely with the Cataloging Unit to ensure accurate
bibliographic entries.  Participates in appropriate collection
development activities as a library liaison to one or more academic
departments.  Reports to the Coordinator of Serials.

Qualifications:  ALA accredited MLS degree.  Familiarity with the
serials trade and with current trends in serials management and
control.  Experience using computers in applications such as word
processing, database management and spreadsheets.  Excellent oral and
written communication skills.  Evidence of initiative, flexibility
and ability to work creatively in a rapidly changing environment.
Interest in personal scholarly achievement and professional
development.

Highly Desired:  Experience with the DRA Serials and Acquisitions
modules.  Experience with bibliographic utilities (preferably OCLC).
Reading knowledge of at least one foreign language.

Salary:  Instructor Rank - $27,000
