VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Position: Serials
Available: Open until filled. Position funded July 1, 1999

Responsible for serials in all formats, including acquisitions and
cataloging, claiming and holdings, problem resolution, planning,
coordination and supervision.  Evaluates possible additional resources,
print and electronic, as well as deselection.  Supervises full-time
assistant and student workers.  Shares responsibility for collection
development.  Manages change positively, addresses human and technical
issues effectively, and collaborates well with others in planning and
decision-making processes.  participates in reference and instructional
services.  Full-time, non-tenure track position with library rank and
faculty status.

Qualifications:  Required:  Accredited MLS or equivalent; working knowledge
of Internet and personal computer applications; experience with at least one
automated library system such as Voyager; ability to work in a complex and
changing environment; supervisory, organizational, analytical and problem
solving skills; effective interpersonal, oral and written communication
skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively; demonstrated
flexibility and attention to detail; service orientation based on a
library-wide perspective; and the ability to adjust priorities based on
changing needs.
        Desired: Experience in an academic library; working knowledge of
standard selection and evaluation methods and tools; experience with OCLC;
experience in acquiring serials and/or electronic information resources;
familiarity with the technical and legal issues surrounding the delivery of
digital information in a networked environment; professional serial
experience in automated serials control; knowledge of serials cataloging;
negotiation and budgeting skills.

Salary: 12 month range from $27,000 to mid $30,000s, commensurate with
