The University of Maryland, Baltimore, Health Sciences and Human
Services Library invites applications for an Associate Librarian I
position.

Position:

Job No. JD00994
Associate Librarian I (Electronic/Continuations Cataloger)
Full-time Librarian (non-tenure track)

Reports to: Head of Cataloging

Responsibilities:

Provides high-quality cataloging of electronic resources, as well as
serials and monographic continuations, to facilitate public access to
the Library's collection and information resources.  Responsibilities
will include the creation of original or adaptation of existing catalog
records for materials issued in continuing formats, including
computer files and Internet-accessible resources; development and
maintenance of quality control procedures for cataloging and
processing of materials; assistance in the development of automated
bibliographic databases; and other special projects and related
duties.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library
school required; previous experience cataloging serials, electronic
resources, or non-book formats preferred. Good written and oral
communication skills; strong organizational skills and an aptitude for
complex, analytical work with attention to detail. Familiarity with
currant trends in cataloging, especially those related to serials and
electronic information, is highly desirable, as is knowledge of the
Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (2nd ed., 1998 revision), of
MARC21 (formerly USMARC) bibliographic, authority, and holdings
formats, of Library of Congress and National Library of Medicine
policies and procedures, and of Library of Congress classification
schedules and practices. Knowledge of the use, interpretation, and
application of LC Subject Headings (LCSH) and/or Medical Subject
Headings (MeSH), and experience with OCLC or other bibliographic
utility also highly desired.

Starting salary range: $27,274-$33,288
