The Library of Virginia would like to advertise a paraprofessional serials
position:

Serials Assistant
Grade 8
Position # 35
$22,763 - $35,539

The Library of Virginia is seeking a Serials Assistant to assist with the
library's
serials and acquisitions programs.  This position serves as the primary
library
agent for serials acquisitions and control by applying professional library
standards, cataloging rules, and automated systems in order to provide
access
to serial titles for library users.  The position serves as a primary LVA
contact
with serials vendor account managers and customer representatives for
account
subscriptions and memberships; checks in annual serial publications;
monographic
series and titles with irregular publications frequency; verifies
bibliographic records
for serials; identifies and locates overdue and missing issues of all
serials; and
performs copy cataloging on OCLC and updates new titles and title changes of
current serials by applying standard library operating procedures and other
professional library standards.

The sucessful candidate will have a college degree in liberal arts or
library
science or a combination of college courses and equivalent experience.
Experience in serials and/or cataloging is preferred.  Knowledge of standard
library operating procedures, library systems including online database
searching, basic computer skills including word processing.  Some knowledge
of cataloging rules and serials holdings and bibliographic control
preferred.
Ability to assist patrons and staff and to perform detailed work.
