Oh! I missed it because my family always used them interchangeably. Except the large Sunday midday meal was always Dinner. The family is from the upper Midwest.

The difference is dinner and supper.
Dinner is the main meal of the day taken either at mid day or in the evening. While supper is taken in the evening and is a light meal.
