I still believe, based on modifiers in other instances, that a Starport Type A is far superior to Starport type B. The fact C has DM 0, B has DM +2, and A has DM +4 is entirely in a reasonable progression.

The solution (I still think) is not to change the DM because for some reason going C->B is better than going b->A and I don't believe that.

Also, the only change you then need to do is fix the typo. The time is not 0-150%, it is 0-160%.

That's just as valid a fix and preserves the relationship that the DMs establish which is C->B is +2 and B->A is +2.

Also re 'unrefined fuel': Does that apply only with ports that support unrefined fuel? Do you still get that on an X?

What if my planet is outside the habitable zone, is cold, and my hydrographics are frozen methane or the like. We know hydrographics doesn't always mean water. Now, you could say 'well, in theory someone could mine fuel from there' and I can't say it couldn't be done, but that's a long leap from 'I drop the hose in the bay'. I doubt many crews could mine the methane safely and effectively without specialized gear which most crews would not have.

So, I think 'always' might be untrue. 'most of the time' or 'under most circumstances' I can accept. 'always' is just not going to be entirely truthful.

Hello all,

I have completed my walk through of Complete/Compleat Starport by J. Andrew Keith which is a supplement for MT.

During my walk through I found three items that I posted from the article.

1. The designation of a Type X starport in the article indicated that the port is interdicted.

This caught me by surprise since I will admit to doing a quick review of the MT Referee's Manual Basic Mainworld Generation or Extended System Generation or the CT LBB 6 Scouts Basic Star System Generation or Continuation Star System Generation Checklist and totally missed the addition of Type X indicating an interdicted port in a Red Travel Zone.

In MT Referee's Manual p. 23 Universal World Profile Tables 2, like CT LBB 3 1977/1981, on the Starports table indicates that Type X Quality is None. Basic Mainworld Generation 2 p. 25  17 Travel Zones adds the information that "Class X starports are almost always red zones...."

In CT LBB 6 Scouts 1983 7th printing p. 26 Starports table has the following entry: "X No starport. Generally a red Travel Zone."

The discussion I believe concluded that a majority believed that the X designation should be applied to ports in a Red Travel Zone.

I disagree with the change may in CT LBB 6 and then carried over to MT Referee's manual and TNE Core Rulebook since a system could have been a green or amber zone with a Type A starport and due to events the system's travel status has be changed to red. The system's starport is still type A but no one can utilize its facilities.

2. Unrefined fuel is always available on a world with a hydrosphere rating of 1 or greater.

The availability of unrefined fuel as indicated in the supplemental material is something I do agree with. I also agree that unrefined fuel has to be shipped in if the hydrosphere is 0.

3. Traffic, per the Complete/Compleat Starport, is determined by rolling 2D6 adding a DM from the Starport/Spaceport Contents Table times 10. This is the percentage of berths occupied at that time which is 0 to 150%.

The issue is the table DM Traffic DM is A +4, B + 2, C 0, D -1  and E -2. Per the directions rolling 2D6 produces a result of 2 to 12. During the discussion on this I suggested that the Type A DM be changed to 3 and a counter suggestion was to change 150% to 160%. My preference is to change the DM.

4. New stuff

A. In the Traffic entry wait time is determined as follows:
"Results over 100% represents ships already in orbit and on a waiting list to land at the port in question. If joining in a waiting list, roll 2D6-2 and multiply by the percentage. Divide by 10, rounding fractions up, to get the number of hours (from 0 to 150) before there is a berth available. The ship must either remain in orbit or fins an alternate starport until a landing bay opens up."

Is the percentage the one used to determine the port's currently filled or the percentage over 100%?

How can the instruction for the wait time be up to 150 hours?

Here what I get following the instructions as written.

The percentage rolled for the number of berths filled was 140%.

The wait time result of rolling 2D6-2 is 0 to 10 hours.

The roll for the wait time is 10 x 140% = 14 / 10 = 1.4 hours round up to 2 hours.

The roll for the wait time is 10 x 40% the number of ships waiting for berths = 4 / 10 = 0.4 hours round up to 1 hour.

B. Compleat Starport

While searching for a The Port Authority Handbook from CT STP02 Starports document I stumbled on a two book item for sale. The books are The Compleat Starport & Special Delivery - Traveller RPG Adventure & Supplement. I've ordered them to see if The Compleat Starport is the same as the material in Far and Away Vol. 1 No. 1.

C. Old material
A while back someone, probably Timothy, asked about a title starting with Dark. During my search for The Port Authority Handbook I found the magazines Dark Star 1, Dark Star 2, and Dark River.

Are any of the titles what is being searched for?
