And well I couldn’t find any Tugs, and the letter is there in the craft type codes and everything … Also there didn’t seem to be any small craft in the between 50 and 95 ton range, so I thought 70 was about right for a Tug.

Strap in, activate the seat arm rest controls, turn off the drive regulators and … yes … well … 42.6G constantly for a day and a half might be slightly over the top maybe?

Anyway … comments welcome.

Flying in the Anand class Tugboat is a the pineal of the carer for any ship’s boat crew. The co-ordination, the handling and the sheer power and potential consequences accompanying the privilege are overwhelmingly huge, and the pay matches. Experience, skill, attention to detail, innovation and teamwork are key attributes for all members of the crew.

The Anand’s are the fastest, most nimble, most powerful, and potentially the most dangerous boat in Count space, and can be found in the shipyards and starports in and around Home, New Home, Rafe, and Boogerian. These are the boats that move the battleships, cruisers, escorts, bulk freighters and any and all other ships into their docs for maintenance and repair, with millimetre perfect precision in distance, acceleration and speed.

The Anand Tugboat is essentially a cockpit and controls strapped to a massive fusion engine and large powerplant. The cargo space is essentially 0 as the 2.4 kliters are used to expand the cockpit to make it easier to co-ordinate between the crew. The 4th seat is provided for extensive observation training for new crewmembers to learn their jobs and for instructors overseeing those new crewmembers once they are in the prime seats. The heavy robot arms are there to allow the Anand’s to lock onto any ship as needed as well as adjust the craft angle of attachment (and thus thrust vector) as may be needed. The high powered radar, larder and light amplification are there to pick out the minute detail close in to the ships that are being moved as opposed to finding them in the outer reaches of the system. The extensive coms systems are provided to ensure co-ordinate with other Anands that are moving the same ships, and it’s the job of the Navigator to co-ordinate between boats as well as run the sensors and plot vectors that may be changing by the second. The Navigator is in charge and their word is law. The engineer runs the engine and powerplant and max output is normally limited to 6G* although discretion of up to 8G is allowed. The pilot moves the craft, engages the grapples and robot arms.

The duration of the Anand’s is relatively limited at full power out, however it’s unlikely that the crew will be in the Tug for more than a 7 hour shift. The power and propulsion requirements of the Anand means that the fuel duration could be extended up to 717 days, with each hour at full output using 20 days of that extended duration, with combinations anywhere between the two, however they Anand’s are not designed for and do not have the life-support capabilities for more than 1.5 days.

The Anand’s crews while being consulted on upgrades to the latest technology, such as grav plats and inertial compensators, have so far rejected the notions of any upgrades to boats or the instigation of any new class of Tug. They believe the innate feel and feedback they get from not having them make them better at their jobs and the newer technology would remove that element.

Best regards,

Ewan
