I still carry too much.  And in the days before Kindle would take a fair bit of reading matter - till I tore up an old ankle injury tripping over at EuroDisney, ending up on crutches and my wife carrying my luggage home.  "Right, I'm not letting you pack ever again."

I remember backpacking advice I had in my youth.

Pack what you think you'll need and carry it round the block.  The decide what you're leaving behind...

next segment of TTA (through the woods and up to Bannerji's ship.  In theory), I'll be keeping a tight rein on what they're carrying.

Have just watched the old Lethal Weapon film (Mel Gibson and Danny Glover), the first one.  I paid attention to ammo.  Their, presumably automatic rifles and/ or machine guns, seemed to have impressive loads and although a couple of times in the film you see them reloading weapons, much more you see a lot of gunfire and not only no reloads but no obvious place they're carrying extra clips.  (e.g. towards the end when Gibson and baddie are having a shoot out on the freeway and Gibson at least is wearing very little).  I suspect I should learn this kind of thing from Hollywood.

On the other hand, I've not seen that film in a looong time and had forgotten the details.  I'm very impressed with how the new tv series (well, new in that it's in its second season over here) is much more faithful to the characters than I remembered.

Also watched Where Eagles Dare [1] - although irritatingly the last few minutes (from the airfield onwards were chopped off by the stupid timer recording) - and they were a bit better at reloads and particularly good at making sure they were obviously toting round some heavy kit bags for all their rope, explosives and, presumably, ammo.  Although there was one scene where Clint Eastwood is holding off the wehrmacht at the top of a staircase in Schloss Adler and his machine gun seemed to go on for ever.  Of course, I spent half the film wondering what model of helicopter that features was.  Definitely not even TL6 (Aramanx) by the looks of it.  <googles>  ah, first hit I looked at has the answer:

so yes, a bit anachronistic but close enough for me in my ignorance. :-)
(But no, I couldn't work out what it was doing in the film either...)

Very odd rewatching these old films I've long forgotten with a Traveller ref's eye to plot/probability/PC actions/equipment!  But I must say Where Eagles Dare was remarkably exciting and has worn well for something that's nearly as old as I am.  Tomorrow a 1940 Zorro - maybe it will help with my noble scions!

PS Would Central Supply Catalogue type "cold weather gear" necessarily mean snow camouflage or just warm?
