Re: [EXTERNAL] - CLE K-12 Discussion: Looking for PhD program specializing in Systems Thinking in elementary school Hovmand, Peter 10 Jan 2020 00:05 EST

Hi Diane,

There are definitely opportunities to a PhD here in St. Louis with a focus on systems thinking in elementary schools along with a strong environment of teachers and administrators using SD/ST in schools and classrooms through collaborations between Wash U/SSDL, SkipNV, and community based organizations. We also have active research projects in Afghanistan and Pakistan on inclusive education using CBSD led by my colleague Jean-Francois Trani.

Something to consider is whether the interest is specifically educational methods/pedagogy, policy/administration, or more school based supports or prevention as a PhD could be pursued in social work, public health, education, etc.

There have also been a number of SkipNV fellows who have gone onto seeking degrees at Harvard Graduate School of Education, which may speak to a receptivity accepting students interested in pursuing advanced degrees.

    Diana,
The only place that I can think of is Washington University, St. Louis. You may want to have a brief conversation with Peter Hovmand about whether the Social System Design Lab has anticipated such a request or program. I am copying Peter on this email.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] - CLE K-12 Discussion: Looking for PhD program specializing in Systems Thinking in elementary school

    Dear Colleagues,

A colleague of mine from Turkey has a friend who wants to pursue a PhD program outside of Turkey that has a focus on the use of Systems Thinking in Elementary Education.

Is there a university that has a PhD program with that focus?

I an unaware of any PhD or other special certificate programs that would allow this person to gain the formal education she desires.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Diana Fisher
