Salary is $33,906 minimum. Benefits include 22 vacation days, sick leave, group health and life insurance and state retirement plan. This position will work closely with Central Technical Services staff, particularly managers and original catalogers, with subject specialists in the General Library System, and with library administrators. QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: MLS from an ALA accredited program. Thorough familiarity with cataloging procedures and principles as defined in AACR2,the MARC bibliographic record, and the Holdings and Authorities formats. At least one year experience in a library or related environment. Demonstrated knowledge of national or international metadata schemes. Ability to work independently and as a team member in a dynamic environment on a variety of simultaneous workflows. Excellent oral and written communications skills. DESIRED: Experience working with publishers of electronic resources. Experience with library acquisitions processes and license review and application. Experience with electronic texts and image databases. PRINCIPAL DUTIES: The Electronic Resources Librarian will be a split appointment reporting to the Head of the Humanities Department of Central Technical Services and the Acquisitions Coordinator. This person will provide leadership in areas associated with intellectual access that involve descriptions of electronic resources. The Librarian will maintain a high level of expertise related to metadata and will assist in the development of policies and procedures related to electronic resources. Cataloging Responsibilities: Organize access to the growing number of networked information resources and catalog materials in a variety of formats. Serve as University of Wisconsin-Madison representative to OCLC CORC participating in the development of this product and also contributing records. Act as a resource person to Central Technical Services staff in the application of metadata schemas as Dublin Core, TEI, and locally. Investigate and participate in the implementation of solutions for providing bibliographic control for all types of electronic resources, e.g. serial aggregators or locally created content. Monitor trends in metadata issues and keep library staff informed of key developments. Assist in the development of local policies and procedures in support of consistent and standardized treatment for metadata. Acquisitions Responsibilities: Assist in the reviewing of licenses, especially for serial aggregators, in consultation with the CTS Acquisitions Coordinator. Act as liaison with the vendors during the process of considering and purchasing a product, relaying questions, determining pricing options, and bringing relevant information back to the library staff. Work with various library units to coordinate and facilitate cooperative efforts in providing access to electronic resources.
