ARL ADVANCED LICENSING WORKSHOP

Purpose and Overview:

This two-day workshop will:
o   deepen participants' understanding of license terms and conditions through
      several  hands-on license review exercises including a session with a
      legal drafting expert;

o   help participants understand, evaluate, and minimize the risks in licensing
      electronic resources;

o   provide strategies to participants on how to protect their legal and
      business interests when working with consortia; and

o   review strategies for getting past no in difficult negotiations.

Topics covered will include:

The State of Licensing Today
Risk Assessment - The Perspective of Licensees
Risk Assessment - The Perspective of Licensors
Working with Consortia
Understanding and Drafting Legal Language
Implications of International Licenses
Pricing Models and Strategies
Getting Past No

Optional group discussion sessions with the trainers will be offered the
first evening.

Session topics will be:
o  Consortia
o  Legal Issues
o  Process and User Issues

Target Audience:
The workshop is open to those who have attended ARL's License Review and
Negotiation workshop or who have had a minimum of 2 years experience
reviewing and negotiating license agreements for their library or consortium.
