      This position is located in: Shields Library: Serials Department and
is not represented by a union.

      Responsibilities: Responsible for management and supervision (7.50
FTE) of the Serials Cataloging Section. Participate in department and
library long-range planning. Serve as primary resource person for serials
cataloging, post-cataloging, records maintenance, conversion, inventory
control, book processing and monographic series control. Train staff and
resolve the most complex problems.

      Requirements: Detailed knowledge and understanding of library
functions and procedures, with an emphasis on technical services,
preferably in an academic library. Detailed knowledge of serials/serials
practices. Detailed knowledge of AACR and AACR2, LC subject headings and
current sources of verification, LC classification system and library
tools and resources sufficient to do bibliographic searching,
verification, and problem resolution. Familiarity with electronic journals
and web resources. Demonstrated management and supervisory skills
sufficient to manage a complex, specialized unit. Organizational and
planning skills and abilities to determine priorities, delegate work, and
establish goals. Writing skills sufficient to update manuals, prepare
memos and performance evaluations. Mathematical and reasoning skills
sufficient to compile accurate statistics and extrapolate data. Ability to
interact tactfully and diplomatically with a variety of people from within
and outside the Library.
