Enhances access to electronic resources through cataloging and the application of metadata. Coordinates creation of metadata for image, audio, and text-based digital objects. Collaborates with other library units/personnel in defining and using metadata for digital library collections. Addresses issues related to standards, record format and record contents for digital resources. Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent. Training in the arrangement and description of library materials and standards of bibliographic control including AACR2R, LC Subject Headings, LC Classification and MARC21 record structures. Knowledge of and experience in use of automated systems in libraries. Familiarity with established and emerging metadata standards (TEI, XML, Dublin Core, RDF). Enthusiasm for examining new access methods from digital formats. Strong analytical and communication skills. Ability to work independently as well as to participate actively in team projects. New MLS graduates are encouraged to apply.
