VL# 020315 Serials & Access Services Assistant (Library Asst II) $2,110.00 - $2,589.00/Mo Final Filing Date 02-22-02 This position is located in: Government Information & Maps, Shields Library and is represented by a union. Working hours: 8 hrs/day, M-F between 8 am - 6 pm. For more information about the University Library, see: http//www.lib.ucdavis.edu/ Responsibilities: Create and/or maintain online or manual records for serials titles. Convert manual titles to machine-readable format; assign classification numbers. Input records into library database. Process subscription changes, renewals and invoices. Act as resource for other serials staff. Perform full range of circulation duties, including printing and mailing circulation notices and bills. Supervise student employees, schedule work hours, train and evaluate shelving, stack maintenance, circulation and technical support duties. Responsible for management of reference and media collections. Provide routine assistance to patrons at public service desks; may page and check out material. Requirements: Experience working in a library setting (knowledge of technical processing sufficient to input, search and interpret data and/or experience working with serials preferred). Ability to work accurately with detail, make comparisons and perceive differences. Experience using databases to enter and retrieve information and ability to work in a rapidly changing computer environment. Knowledge of the Internet sufficient to search for and interpret information. Ability to supervise (select, train, motivate, counsel and evaluate) student employees. Ability to understand and follow detailed oral/written instructions. Organizational skills to assign priorities and meet departmental standards, while accommodating a fluctuating workflow. Oral communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of people. Reasoning skills to interpret policies, procedures, etc., to clarify requests for information and determine appropriate response. Writing skills sufficient ! to update manuals, prepare reports, etc. Ability to use word processing software, and electronic mail.
