Responsibilities include original cataloging of serials (both print and non-print) and electronic resources in a variety of languages and subject areas utilizing national cataloging standards for the purpose of providing comprehensive and accurate bibliographic description and subject analysis; develops serials/electronic resources cataloging policies and practices considering national standards and shifting local needs; supervises one copy cataloger and students; maintains high level working knowledge of national and international cataloging standards and practices; participates actively in local and national discussions through professional development and service activities; and acts as liaison with the Serials/Acquisitions Unit. Position, which reports to the Head of Cataloging, requires strong collaborative and collegial skills with a personal commitment to responsive and innovative service. QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA accredited library program with 3+ years original cataloging experience, including some serials experience; working knowledge of current national cataloging standards (e.g., AACR2r, Library of Congress Rule Interpretations, LCSH, LC classification, USMARC formats); reading knowledge of at least one Western European language; experience with a national bibliographic utility (OCLC or RLIN) and a local automated system; excellent interpersonal, communication, and training skills; strong organizational skills; aptitude for complex, analytical work with attention to detail; demonstrated problem solving skills; flexibility and initiative in carrying out assignments in response to changing environment; ability to prioritize work to ensure that departmental and library goals are realized; ability to foster team work among all levels of staff; ability to work in a production-oriented, technology intensive environment with a commitment to professional development and growth.
