Barbara,
Although we shelve our periodicals by title, our government
documents periodicals (shelved on another floor) are shelved by SuDoc
number, or , lacking that, government body and/or title.
In order to make it easier for our patrons, we added an indicator
to field 246 - "09" so that it displays to the patron as "SHELVED
AS..." so that we display the SHELVING TITLE if it is different from
the actual title. (Our system is Innovative Interfaces and we made
this arrangement with them prior to them indexing and loading our
OPAC database).
    I hope that helps.

Subject: Arrangement of current periodicals

My predecessor arranged the current periodicals by grouping serials
according to professional association rather than alphabetically. For
example, all of the ACM publications are shelved together followed by
the AMS journals. This creates problems for individuals not familiar
with our shelving scheme.

I am wondering how other libraries are displaying current periodicals,
alphabetically, LC classification or another scheme.

Thank you in advance for your input.
