POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

SERIALS CLERK (standing orders)
Walsh Library at Rose Hill, Bronx, Serials Department

Under the supervision of the Head of the Serials Department, this position
is responsible for acquisition of the collection of current serials and
serial-type reference materials in all formats (hard cover, microform,
CD-ROM) as well as electronic resources (databases)

Duties include:
Sorting everyday mail coming to Serials department;
Handling new standing orders and cancellations for serials, monographic
series, multi-volume publications, microforms;
Processing invoices and maintaining payment records for all standing
orders; handling claims, refunds, changes
Handling paper work, renewals and payment records for library electronic
resources (databases);
Resolving a variety of problems arising from non-receipts, erroneous,
partial or duplicate shipments of material; resolving payment problems;
Handling communication (written, telephone, fax, electronic) with vendors
and publishers, as well as other library personnel;
Checking-in serials using integrated library system (DRA at the moment,
migrating to Sirsi), and routing/processing all materials according to
established procedures; occasionally checking in journals when necessary;
Barcoding and labeling material received through Serials department;
Updating prices of serials and electronic resourses in SID (Serials
Information Database);
Creating/updating Local Data Records (LDR) in OCLC Union List;
Performing other tasks as required  (e.g.: participation in further
automation projects, library database maintenance, holdings updates, etc)
Qualifications required:
Demonstrated ability for performing a multitude of very detailed tasks with
accuracy. Critical judgement is necessary for the identification and
resolution of a variety of problems. A candidate must be very organized,
responsible and detail-oriented. Library experience, preferably with
serials, is very desirable. Good educational background is helpful. Ability
to learn new computer programs. Physical ability to handle occasional
quantities of library material.

Starting date:  ASAP

Annual salary: $30,490
