PUBLIC SERVICES / COLLECTION MANAGER FOR SERIALS LIBRARIAN Louis L.

Rank & Salary: This is a nine month, tenure track, faculty appointment.
Salary and rank are competitive and commensurate with academic
preparation and experience. An excellent fringe benefits package is
included.

Responsibilities: Duties will include, but not limited to the following:

* Collection Manager activities include: collection development and
evaluation of the library's serials collection (both books and
periodicals);

* Evaluation of faculty and student requests for new serials;
recommendation of new periodicals in either print or electronic format;

* Monitoring of current subscriptions to ensure continued relevance to
the university's curricula;

* Evaluation of current print subscriptions in light of online full-text
availability (individually and in aggregated databases);

* Oversight of existing print and microform serials collections,
including preservation and binding issues.

* This position does not include the ordering, physical processing, or
cataloging of serials, which is handled by Technical Services.

* Public Service activities include:  reference desk coverage (including
rotated evening and weekend hours);

* Bibliographic instruction;

* Department liaison;

* Promotion of library services to the campus;

* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: The library is seeking a public service oriented
librarian with strong collection development skills and experience,
preferably in the area of serials analysis.  Candidates should have
academic reference and liaison experience; a familiarity with serials
vendors and full-text providers; and strong interpersonal and
communication skills. Other qualifications: Master's degree from an
ALA-accredited library school; ability to work both cooperatively and
independently; ability to work flexibly, energetically, and creatively
in a busy, changing environment; ability to set goals and manage various
assignments simultaneously.  Preferred: additional graduate degree in a
subject area.

must be fluent in the English language, be able to communicate well, and
demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching through a successful
interview and/or classroom demonstration.
