Re: Kluwer, my new pen pal Dianne Oster 21 Jun 2004 16:18 UTC

Jeanette,
What would we do without Kluwer? I've had the same experience with them
recently. You have to be really tenacious sometimes, in order to get claims
filled. Of course, you can use all the spare time you have to do it.

As Serialsters know, things get really slow and boring in our postions,
so thought I would share that I've enlivened up my life by taking on a
pen pal - Kluwer International. It really is quite interesting, and
passes the time in a most entertaining manner.

This is our latest exchange, first from them, in response to my fourth
claim for a missing issue of Landscape ecology (said issue covered in
the POA Kluwer signed in the matter of the divine, Inc. bankruptcy):

Thank you for your claim letter dated June 3rd, 2004 informing us about
missing Volume 18, issue 6.
Please be informed that as you have ordered and paid via an agent, you
have to send your
claim to the agent.
***I wrote back:
I am beginning to wonder if I will ever get the issue, no matter what I
do. As I stated in my claim letter, that was the fourth claim I sent.
The first claim was ignored.
The second one, you responded that the issue was not yet published & I
should allow more time - this though I search several other libraries'
holdings, and make sure they actually have the issue before I claim
anything.
I reclaimed, because I knew full well it had been published, and had
been published and distributed some time ago. That generated a response
saying you would be sending it, but it was out of stock, and I should
allow 6-8 weeks.
Now the fourth claim - I need to inform my agent. I will do so. I am
suprised, however, seeing as this issue's time period is not covered in
our renewal with them.
***See? Your life too can be fun and exciting. Just stop ignoring
those claim refusals, and you too can stop wiling away the hours paying
invoices, checking in serials, etc. etc. etc.
