Head Librarian, Serials and Electronic Resources Department

The Head Librarian is responsible for managing the operations of the
newly created Serials and Electronic Resources Department comprised of
the Head Librarian and 12 FTE classified staff. The Department is part
of the University of Texas Libraries Technical Services Division and
reports to the Assistant Director for Technical Services.

The Head Librarian will provide leadership, expertise, and management
relating to acquiring, managing, providing access to, and fiscal
accounting for serials and electronic resources. The librarian has a
high level of personal contact and communicates on a regular basis with
other staff and external service providers, including serial publishers,
vendors, content providers and technology suppliers. The librarian
continually seeks and identifies new approaches to the management,
organization and delivery of electronic resources. The librarian serves
as a resource person and works closely with the Head of Monographic
Acquisitions, Head of Cataloging, Head of Serials Cataloging, Cataloging
staff and Research Services staff. In particular, the librarian will
manage SFX, a future electronic resources management system, and
participate in the implementation of a new integrated library system.
The librarian will facilitate metadata assignment with cataloging and
digital library systems staff and understands the importance of
technical services in providing high quality customer service.

Required Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited graduate program.
Minimum of two years experience with serials acquisitions, cataloging,
or related serials experience in an ARL or Research library. Experience
with the cataloging, acquisitions, or collecting of both electronic and
print resources. Supervisory experience. Familiarity with OpenURL
resolvers.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated excellent planning, leadership,
communication and supervisory skills in a complex library network
environment. Experience in acquisition and management of print and
electronic resources. Experience with and knowledge of issues regarding
the management of electronic resources in an SFX environment. Cataloging
experience or classroom training in cataloging, including demonstrated
knowledge of OCLC, MARC formats and other metadata schema. Proficiency
with an integrated library system; ability to take an active role in
implementing an integrated library system and associated workflow
changes. Successful candidates will display evidence of initiative,
creative energy and resourcefulness and a proven ability to work
collaboratively and efficiently.

Salary and Benefits: $52,000-$65,000 annually or more, depending on
qualifications and experience. No state or local income tax. Standard
state benefits package including annual vacation and sick leave, paid
holidays, retirement plans, and health insurance options (comprehensive
major medical and HMO plans, dental, vision, life, and disability).
Deferred compensation and tax sheltered annuity programs also available.
