Catalog Librarian, Catalog & Metadata Services Team, Collections
Services, University of Connecticut Libraries

Working as a member of the Catalog and Metadata Services Team in the
Collections Services Area, and reporting to the Team Leader, the
incumbent performs primarily original and some complex adaptive
cataloging in a wide range of formats, including monographs, serials,
online resources, video, and digital objects; participates in defining,
documenting, and implementing local cataloging standards and workflows,
as well as in the development and implementation of standards, policies,
and procedures for the creation and editing of cataloging records in
MARC and other metadata formats, for print, electronic and digital
library materials.

Required qualifications include: ALA accredited graduate-level library
degree; basic knowledge of issues relating to bibliographic treatment,
authority control and knowledge access management; knowledge of
cataloging standards including Library of Congress classification
schedules and subject headings, AACR2, MARC or other metadata formats;
ability to organize work independently, exercise individual initiative,
be flexible in a dynamic work setting of shifting priorities and
function in a team-based environment.

Preferred qualifications include: Previous experience in creating
original records or editing complex copy in one or more formats;
experience with the Voyager library management system and OCLC; prior
professional experience in an academic or research library; knowledge of
or experience with non-MARC metadata schemes and the ability to
participate in the analysis and use of metadata standards for digital
collections.
