Please excuse cross-posting: Head of Cataloging and Metadata Services Temple University, Philadelphia PA Thanks to significant funding enhancements and new leadership committed to providing excellent services and collections, the Temple University Libraries have embarked upon an ambitious program to expand and improve services for this diverse, vibrant urban research university of 20,597 undergraduate and 5,825 graduate students, and 1,642 full-time faculty. We offer an exceptional opportunity to participate in the development of a major ARL library now experiencing transformative growth and change in one of Americaâs most vibrant cultural centers. Reporting to the Senior Associate University Librarian, the Head of Cataloging and Metadata Services (Manager, Library Services) ensures that all library information resources in all formats (print, online, images, media, archival, etc) are rapidly and accurately described in the online catalog and other finding tools so these may be identified and used by Temple university students and faculty and others world-wide. The incumbent will plan, organize and evaluate effectiveness and efficiency of procedures and workflow for creation of library cataloging and metadata. Develop new workflow routines for projects and new materials types. Stay abreast of new technology, national developments, and best practices in order to integrate these into the University Libraries and other Temple libraries as appropriate. Supervise directly and indirectly 13 FTE performing cataloging, metadata creation, database maintenance, and physical materials processing. Plan, implement, and monitor multiple external contracts providing cataloging data or bibliographic utilities services to Temple (incl. outsourcing of specialized materials and languages, creation of specialized loaders as necessary), and perform other duties. Qualifications: Required: ALA accredited MLS. Five years post-MLS cataloging and database management experience in an academic, research, or large public library system required, including supervisory and training experience. Knowledge of applicable national cataloging and database standards (AACR2rev, LCSH, LC classification, MARC, and metadata formats, RLIN or OCLC cataloging systems); excellent oral and written communication skills; and evidence of ongoing professional growth and awareness of current/emerging trends in librarianship are required.
