Cataloging Librarian The Thomas Cooper Library, University of South Carolina, Columbia, seeks a highly motivated, innovative, service-oriented Cataloging Librarian who will be responsible for original and complex copy cataloging of print and electronic monographs and serials in a variety of subject areas and formats according to established standards and departmental policies. The Cataloging Librarian will work with other department staff to plan, develop and implement ongoing activities, policies and special projects. The University of South Carolina enrolls approximately 18,000 undergraduate students and 8,000 graduate students on the Columbia campus. The Thomas Cooper Library owns in excess of 3 million volumes, subscribes to 16,000 journals in print and provides access to a wide variety of reference resources and journal collections via the Internet. The Library is a member of SOLINET, OCLC, the Association of Research Libraries, and the Center for Research Libraries. Salary and Benefits: Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Hiring range starts at $34,000. Benefits include medical, dental, state retirement or optional retirement plan. Appointment: Full time (37.5 hours) 12-month appointment at the tenure-track rank of Librarian. The position reports to the Special Materials Cataloger. University of South Carolina librarians are required to fulfill faculty responsibilities, including professional service. Required Qualifications: MLS or MLIS from accredited ALA program; knowledge of the use and application of cataloging tools and standards, including OCLC, CONSER, AACR2, LCSH, LC classification, LC rule interpretations and MARC21; awareness of current trends and issues in cataloging; familiarity with authority control; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; evidence of individual initiative, flexibility, and analytical skills to resolve complex problems. Preferred Qualifications: Serials, monographs, or electronic resources cataloging experience in an academic library; experience using the Innovative Interfaces, Inc. automated library system; evidence of experience in teaching and training technical services staff; bibliographic knowledge of at least one foreign language.
