POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

HEAD OF SERIALS SERVICES - The Linda Hall Library of Science, Engineering
and Technology. The library is a privately supported independent research
library open to the public, serving a worldwide clientele. Services are
provided to local, national and international academic, business,
technical, and individual users. A distinguished collection of library
materials supports research in physical sciences, life sciences,
engineering and technology. Expansion of services and programs to the
business and research community provides challenges and exceptional
opportunities for growth in professional responsibilities and advancement
to flexible and dedicated staff.

Responsibilities: Provide forward looking leadership on all matters
relating to serials collections. Interact with staff leadership on policy
and program development. Manage and coordinate activities and procedures
related to acquiring, cataloging, receiving, claiming and maintaining
records for serials and government documents, maps and technical reports;
oversee processing of donated serials collections and dispatch of mailings
to exchange partners. Position reports to the Collection Services Officer
and supervises five full-time positions and one professional position.

Qualifications: ALA accredited degree in Library and Information
Management and a minimum of five years experience with serials. Knowledge
of current and innovative views regarding serials procedures and
practices. Administrative and supervisory experience. Excellent
organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Working knowledge
of a full range of serials processing: acquisitions, bibliographic and
budgetary control, claiming. Skilled in use of a national bibliographic
utility, preferably OCLC; operation of an automated serials control
system; and ability to work with foreign publications. Initiative and
flexibility to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities in a
dynamic and collaborative environment. Leadership and customer service
skills; public service experience desirable.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience of candidate.
