British Journal of Infection Control to become Journal of Infection Prevention starting in 2009

Los Angeles, London, New Delhi, and Singapore (March 11, 2008) - SAGE announced today that its British Journal of Infection Control will be changing its name to Journal of Infection Prevention starting in January 2009.

Following the transition of the Infection Control Nurses Association to the Infection Prevention Society (IPS) in September 2007, this journal name change reflects the society's goal to promote the idea that infection, particularly when associated with healthcare, is to be prevented rather than just controlled.

"The society, and hence its journal, now represents an extended international and multi-disciplinary membership, including infection prevention and control professionals, public health and health protection specialists, pharmacists, allied health professionals, and primary care professionals worldwide," commented Tracey Cooper, IPS Editor (BJIC). "This name change will help to support the journal's growth as a valued resource for all professionals interested in infection prevention and control."

"SAGE is committed to supporting the IPS in increasing the profile of this important journal internationally," added Ziyad Marar, Deputy Managing Director, SAGE, "and as such see journal development, including this name change, as critical to increasing the journal's reach, both in terms of increased high quality submissions, as well as readership."

The British Journal of Infection Control will become Journal of Infection Prevention in January 2009. The ISSN will be changing to 1757-1774. The website on SAGE Journals Online will also change and further details will be available later this year.
