Adding Serials Without Assigned ISSNs to Print Holdings Database in Serials Solutions Barbara Pope 17 Oct 2008 20:28 UTC

Hello.

I have been working for months to try to add our serials that do not have
assigned issns to our print holdings database. It took months of work to
clean up our serials records which had no issns and were supposed to, etc.
Then, I created a spreadsheet with the titles, OCLC numbers, and urls for
each title. I have been finally able to get some of them to link
correctly in Article Linker. However, where there have been title changes
where the title is almost exactly the same, both the old and new titles
are listed under one title. For example, we have American Printer with
OCLC # 2069827 and no issn and also American Printer ISSN 0744-6616. In
our A to Z list, both titles appear under American Printer (1900).
American Printer ISSN 0744-6616 is listed also under American Printer
(1982), where it is supposed to be, even though I only created one record
for it in Serials Solutions.

My question is has anyone else done this and made it actually work
consistently? I would say that about 1/2 of the titles are working well
in the A to Z list and linking in Article Linker. I have submitted a
request to the Support Center, but I was hoping to hear from someone who
has actually done it.

Thanks.

Sincerely,
