I don't believe the aggregators are a problem. They have contracts in place with the NYT that are completely separate from this issue. The aggregators don't really replicate the paper edition anyway; they deconstruct the paper, choose content for their site, and reformat/load that content for their own database structure. The problem, I think, remains with institutional access to the web edition. A colleague from this list emailed me directly yesterday suggesting I look at Newsbank's Image e-Edition: http://www.newsbankcolleges.com/colleges/product.cfm?product=81 I've requested more information from my Newsbank rep, but haven't yet heard back from her. I understand this option is one that allows a 90-day rolling access to the exact digital replica of the print edition; don't know anything about pricing, etc. - Jeff Jeff Downing Information Content Librarian University of Texas at Arlington Libraries PO Box 19497 Arlington, TX 76019 817-272-9505 http://www.uta.edu/library/ -----Original Message----- From: SERIALST: Serials in Libraries Discussion Forum [mailto:SERIALST@LIST.UVM.EDU] On Behalf Of Fitzpatrick, Jane Sent: Wednesday, March 23, 2011 9:02 AM To: SERIALST@LIST.UVM.EDU Subject: Re: [SERIALST] NYTimes.com no longer free As a library, we pay considerably more for a print subscription than an individual does, so the Times is going to have to address this somehow. I've not yet been able to find anything about online institutional subscriptions on the NYT site. I did email their customer support department, and am awaiting a reply. Does anyone else have information on this? Since our transition from traditional microfilm to the ProQuest Digital Microfilm product (which has a 2-3 month lag time in filming), we have relied on our print subscription and NYTimes.com to fill the gap. Anyone else have plans or suggestions on how to proceed in light of the new fees? Thanks, Lori -- Lori R.
