I ASKED OUR HEAD OF TECH SERVICES FOR SOME DETAIL ON WHAT WE DO WITH THESE
"ACCOMPANYING DISKETTES" AND HERE'S HER RESPONSE. OUR "A-V" AREA IS PART OF
OUR RESERVE DESK OPERATION, SO THAT THERE IS ALWAYS STAFF AVAILABLE TO HELP
WITH EQUIPMENT, ETC. WHENEVER THE LIBRARY IS OPEN (ALSO A-V IS A CLOSED COL-
LECTION). JUST AROUND THE CORNER FROM RESERVE IS A LARGE POOL OF MICROS
THAT IS MAINTAINED BY THE COMP.CENTRE (INCLUDING A "HELP" DESK). SO THE
SOFTWARE CAN INDEED BE USED RIGHT IN THE LIBRARY OR BORROWED ON 3-DAY OR
SAME-DAY LOAN (DEPENDS ON WHAT IT IS).

Subject: Diskettes

If a floppy disk, audiotape, phonodisc, etc. accompanies
a periodical issue, we check if the 2 can be separated,
i.e., does the accompanying material go with 1 article
or the entire issue. If the latter, the 2 items will go
into the A-V collection, with full 966's (call no. and
bar code no., form, location) so they can circulate for
the 3 days or same day (software = 3 days, sound = same
day). If the 2 can be separated, the issue goes to the
floor with its short 966 and a label on it saying the
accompanying (diskette, tape, etc.) is located in A-V
and the diskette, tape, etc. goes to A-V with a full
966 so it can circulate and a label saying the issue
is in the Stacks. In both cases there is a 500 note
saying either that "Vol.Y no.Z includes a 3.5" disc (etc.)
and is located in A-V" or "3.5" disc accompanying v.Y no. Z
is located in A-V". Separating them is bets because it
allows for binding the vol. complete.
