RE: Call number changes when title changes? John Radencich, Library Cataloging Dept. 08 Mar 1993 18:28 UTC

Standard cataloging procedure is to retain the call number of the previous
title if the new title continues its volume numbering. If volume numbering
starts anew (with vol. 1, no. 1 or whatever) then the cutter numbering only
is changed. This, of course, is assuming the subject of the old and new
titles are similar. Generally, in title changes this is the case, or a new
subject may be added, while also retaining the old.
