Subject: CD-ROMs

Please share your experiences with cataloging serials that
are published on CD-ROMs. I'd like to include questions,
concerns, experiences of others in a talk on this topic that I'm
presenting to the North American Serials Institute Group.
What questions came up when you cataloged your first few
serials on CD-ROM? What answers did you find? Where did you go
for help? Have you since changed how you catalog these serials?
As more titles are published, what questions have arisen?
Do you use the serials or the computer files format for
cataloging? Do you include frequency change information when
using the computer files format? If so, where do you put it? Is
records maintenance different than for other serials? What
bibliographic record maintenance is necessary?
How do you access the CD-ROMs to get the information for
cataloging purposes? (I often use LIST or look for README files.)
From the reference and catalog-users point of view: Is
there information missing from the cataloging record that you
wish was there? What information is included that you don't
think is useful? Are your library users informed about serials
on CD-ROMs through some means other than the library's catalog?
What is that means and does it provide information the catalog
cannot or does not?
Any insights you can share with me will be greatly
appreciated. I hope to incorporate them into my talk and will
share them with this list. Your questions and concerns will
almost certainly help others think about how they have or may
incorporate this electronic format into their serials routines.
     Thank you for your help.
