     POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

     CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, STANISLAUS

     POSITION:   Documents/Periodicals Librarian  (Tenure-Track)

     Responsible for the management of the Library's documents and
     periodicals departments:
      --for the planning, implementation and review of the day-to-day
     operations of periodicals ordering, cataloging and check-in;
      --for coordinating documents collection development, and for all
     aspects of documents cataloging and check-in;
      --for supervising one Library Assistant II (periodicals) and student
     assistants (documents).

     The incumbent will participate in the implementation of the Library's
     Geac ADVANCE serials control module for both the periodicals and
     documents collections.

     The incumbent assists with general reference service (approximately
     10 hours per week, including nights and weekends); and participates
     in reference and cataloging department meetings and in Library
     Faculty and University governance.  Reports to Dean of Library
     Services; collegial relationship with other Library Faculty.

     RANK AND SALARY:   Senior Assistant Librarian. Salary $37,560 -
     $41,184 dependent upon experience and qualifications.

     QUALIFICATIONS:
     REQUIRED:  MLS from an ALA-accredited library school; 3 years of
       professional library experience, including at least 2 years work in a
       documents or periodicals department. Working knowledge of and
       experience with AACR2R, MARC formats and one of the major
       bibliographic utilities (OCLC preferred). Familiarity with current
       trends in serials management and control and with requirements of the
       Federal Depository Library Program. Ability to communicate
       effectively orally and in writing.  Demonstrated interpersonal skills
       and ability to work in a rapidly changing environment.

     PREFERRED:  Experience with an automated library system,
      preferably Geac ADVANCE.  Reference experience, including
      familiarity with online database searching. Experience with union
      listing.  Successful supervisory experience.  Experience working with
      project management.
