                                 WHY EDI?
       WHAT MANAGERS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ELECTRONIC DATA INTERCHANGE

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) - the exchange of routine
business information in a computer processable format - is moving
rapidly from the conceptual stage to become a reality in the
information industry. Managers will learn how to take a
proactive approach toward this technology and discover how they
can be empowered in making informed management decisions related
to the introduction of EDI. A panel of speakers will provide an
overview of the management considerations of implementing EDI
based on experiences from the world of business and the library
perspective both in the US and abroad.

Speakers are: Friedemann Weigel, Managing Partner, Information
Systems Director, Harrassowitz, Wiesbaden, Germany; Brian Green,
Managing Agent, Book Industry Communication, London, England;
Joan Griffith, Director of Library Technology Development,
University of New Mexico and Chair of SISAC, Albuquerque, NM;
