We are looking for a visionary and energetic leader with excellent interpersonal skills and a proven track record of strong, creative leadership. We expect the University Librarian to promote the innovative use of electronic technologies, motivation and equal opportunity for library faculty and staff, effective reponses to faculty and student constituencies, and a vision of our libraries as campus and community resources. The University Librarian reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and is responsible for all library-related activities, including strategic planning and fund-raising. The University Librarian is also the University Records Officer and supervises the University Records Center. The WWU Libraries, which include Mabel Zoe Wilson Library and a branch music library, play an integral role in the teaching, research and outreach mission of the university. The Libraries have 11 faculty, 35 staff, a budget of $3 million, and a newly installed integrated automation system. We are currently embarking on a large-scale physical expansion plan. Western Washington University is a comprehensive university with 10,000 students and 400 faculty in six colleges and the Graduate School. The campus, overlooking the San Juan Islands, is located in Bellingham, a coastal community of 55,000 about 90 miles north of Seattle and 55 miles south of Vancouver, B.C. Qualifications: * An MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program is required; a doctorate, in Library Science or another academic field, is preferred. * Five years progressively responsible administrative experience in an academic library, including planning, budgeting, staffing, and public relations * Demonstrated leadership/management in integrating electronic resources and systems in a library environment * Record of significant professional participation as evidenced by publications, presentations, and/or other contributions * Eligibility for appointment to the faculty as a tenured Associate or Full Professor Minimum salary: $65,000 Review of applications will begin September 15 and will continue until the position is filled.
