Academic Library Assn. of Ohio (ALAO)--Call for Proposals

The Academic Library Association of Ohio (ALAO) is seeking proposals for
its 22nd Annual Conference to be held Friday, November 1, 1996 at the Hyatt
Regency at the Greater Columbus (OH) Convention Center. The theme for the
conference will be Facing the Future: Redefining the Basics.
We can face the future with confidence or we can run from it with fear.
Basics provide a foundation from which we can build even better collections and
services, or one which can erode away from beneath us, leaving us unprepared
for the future. We need to take time to acknowledge what is basic about
library services, customers and staff. Using this as a foundation, we
can prepare our staff members, administration and customers for the future.
ALAO invites program proposals that address both the issues of the
future and the basics. We welcome your perception of the theme. Some of
the questions we hope to explore through lecture, panel discussions,
demonstrations, and workshops include:
*What are basic academic library services? and Who are our customers?
*How do we prepare staff to provide basic library services and future
library services?
*How will basic services be changed in the future?
*How do we prepare patrons and campus administrators for the future library
and the future information structure?
