Serials Cancellations repercussions

Like many other libraries, we have had to cancel many journals
over the past 5 years, beginning with 1990 subs., because of
inflation and the failure of our budget to keep pace with rising
costs. The initial cuts were large in number, but not so large in
effect because we had some titles that were "underused," shall we
say. Now, though, we have cut titles that would never have been
considered for the chopping block, but are held in our main
university campus library system. Finally some of the faculty
have begun to speak out about the problem--and some people have
interpreted this effort as an attack on the management wisdom of
the library. Has anyone else had this situation develop?
