Several people on this list have mentioned DEU-L, which I guess is
similar to BACKMED and BACKSERV. Could someone please post the address
to subscribe to DEU-L? Until I joined this listserv several weeks ago I
had never even heard of other serials exchange listservs.

Thank you

We have participated in DEU for many years -- always on paper and in the
electronic DEU for the past several years (since its inception).

I would most highly recommend DEU-L -- it's easy to use, it's efficient,
and the best part (to us, anyway) is that you can enter a search for a
title once, and *all* lists are searched at the same time. At the moment
we're working on creating a DEU Home Page, to make it even easier for folks
to use.

The only drawback at this time is that not too many people (as compared to
the paper lists) participate -- so you're not getting a really really big
pool to choose from. We still maintain and send out a paper list besides
belonging to the electronic DEU project, because it reaches so many more
people. We just basically print and reproduce the list we've generated to
post to the electronic project.

You don't *have* to join DEU-L to utilize the electronic DEU project -- the
list basically gives you basic instructions on how the whole thing works
and Janice Lange, the list manager, announces when new lists are added and
any other news. However, there are archives on the gopher that give you
the same basic information.

As you may infer, I'm really enthusiastic about the whole project, and if
you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Linda

We belong to both backserv and backmed at listserv@sun.readmore.com

I think it is =fantastic=, without peer. You can list both 'available'
and 'needs'. I find I put our duplicates on it every two-three weeks.
Whatever is left, not much, goes on the list I will send out once a year
on paper to those in the ALA DEU.

I've gotten alot more, more quickly, with less duplication,
electronically than I have with the paper lists. We tend to answer those
requesting our journals if they do/do not get the issue. So you know to
ask for the issue from someone else as opposed to requesting it on paper
and waiting weeks for something to come/not come in the mail. You may
request an issue five-six times from different libraries and get the same
issue five-six times or not at all.

I tried DEU-L once or twice and was =not= impressed. Maybe it's changed
since I last tried but then it seemed very complicated with codes and
archived lists. Come on - =archiving= lists that are only active one or
two =weeks=?????!

oh well, just my humble opinion!
