Worst title awards 1974-1994 & 1995 Selina Lin 03 Jun 1997 02:30 UTC

A few interested poeple have asked where to read the past awards for
Worst Serial Title Change, so I decided to post the following citation to
share with all who may also have always wanted to know but afraid to
ask.

Margaret Mering and Pamela Simpson's article:

"The worst of the worst: celebrating twenty years of the Worst Serial
Title Change of the Year Award" appears in <underline>Library resources &
technical services</underline>, v. 40, no. 1 (1996). Appendix A of that
article is the list of the 1974-1994 winners. In case you want to know
what title was 1995 winner, here's the scoop (verbatim):

The Worst Title Change of the Year Award goes to Exquisite Corpse,

which changed to simply Corpse, then after one issue changed back to
Exquisite Corpse. This no-so-dead-after-all title was more than just a
dead body. As the editor implied, when justifying the return to the
original title, once an exquisite corpse, always an exquisite corpse.
Let's hope they finally bury it.

(To the above statement, may I just add: "The Copse is Dead, Long Live
the Exquisite Corpse!!!")--Selina
