At the University of Hartford we have more than a year of experience with
EBSCOhost which we purchased at consortial rates through the Council of
Connecticut Academic Library Directors.

We are highly pleased with the product. Students are extremely
enthusiastic because of access issues and convcenience--coupled with the
fact that we were able to cancel 300 print journal subscriptions because
they duplicated titles in this database---and add 700 new titles for the
same $$$.

Reservations have been threefold: limited faculty complaints about the
currency of the database versus print material ( a week or two behind at
times); faculty complaints that the entire issue is not available and that
they can't browse an issue from front to back; that we have no printing
solution linked to our workstations. EBSCO has been less than helpful in
addressing the problem of cost recovery through photocopying charges since
few vendors have a smart card solution to what we "the printer problem."

We have had Ebscohost's Magazine Index 1500 for some time and love it!
There were a number of bugs in the beginning, but the latest version is
wonderful and I am continually amazed at the depth of the database.
