A dynamic and innovative leader is sought to provide vision and
direction for all operational aspects of the Simon Schwob Memorial
Library and for campus-wide information and instructional
technologies. The library, presently a NOTIS site, houses a
collection of over 250,000 volumes and has a staff of 25. Special
sections are Archives, Government Documents and Instructional
Technology Services (including Distance Learning).
The Director is responsible for planning, developing, implementing,
and evaluating library collections, programs, and services. As a
member of the Council of Deans, the Director actively participates
in University decision-making processes. The Director provides
leadership in the development and implementation of University
System collaborativeprograms such as GALILEO.
The Director holds Faculty rank (non-tenure track) and reports to the
Vice President for Academic Affairs
REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree in Library or Information Science from
ALA-accredited program. At least five years progressively
responsible experience in an academic library; significant high-level
administrative background with successful personnel, budget, and
resource planning and management experience. In-depth knowledge of
collection and program development, electronic information and
instructional technologies, bibliographic control and management,
reference, instruction, circulation, archives, and media services.
Broad knowledge of library outreach activities and an understanding
of the mission of an urban, regional state university. Excellent
interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated activity in
professional organizations and in institutional and community
activities.
Preference given to candidates with a second advanced degree or a
doctorate degree in a relevant field; scholarly activities;
successful fund-raising; and/or grant-writing endeavors.
