Search Reopened

We seek a Collection Development Team Leader to join our Library and
administer our collection of approximately 2,500 serial titles,
1,500,000 volumes, and an acquisitions budget approaching $1 million.
Environment: Arkansas State University is located in State University,
Arkansas (Jonesboro), halfway between the Mississippi River Delta and
the Ozark Mountains, approximately one hour northwest of Memphis,
Tennessee. Undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees are offered, with
a student enrollment of approximately 10,000.

The Library is the focal center of the campus, and the expansion was
dedicated in 1995 by President Bill Clinton. The Library also contains
the Delta Studies Center, the Center for Learning Technology (faculty)
and a student computer center administered by Computer Services.

Responsibilities: 1.  Supervises five para-professionals in the
following areas: Bindery processing, Serials and standing orders;
Processing; Mailroom; Periodicals reference services; Inventory;
Conservation.  2. Meets with vendors.  3. Monitors departmental
materials budgets.  4. Creates reports for faculty, accrediting teams
and others; manages automated acquisitions subsystem (VTLS).  5.
Facilitates library's collection development committee.  6. Recommends
collection management policies and oversees implementation.  7.
Maintains effective relationships with faculty to assist their selection
of materials for library.  8. Communicates with donors and processes
gifts.  9. Serves the library by participating on strategic initiative
teams and serves the university community through teaching and/or
committee service.

Qualifications:
Required:
Masters in library science from ALA accredited program.  Two years
professional experience in collection development.  Excellent
communication skills.  Ability to work with a diverse group of faculty,
students and staff. Strong commitment to client services.  Understanding
of collection development trends and trends in scholarly communication
and publishing.  Experience with electronic information resources.

Desired:
Experience with and interest in occasionally providing reference service
and/or bibliographic instruction.  Skill in negotiating electronic
information licensing agreements.  Project planning, budget analysis and
forecasting. Experience in a team-based library environment

Salary: $35,000 negotiable.
