LIBRARY SPECIALIST SENIOR

The Library of Virginia is seeking a Senior Library
Specialist for the Virginia Newspaper Project to assist
with cataloging, inventory and union lists programs.  The
Specialist will assist in the cataloging of routine and
difficult titles and inventory functions both locally and
at off-site locations, which may require overnight visits;
update and maintain databases and web site; assist in
preservation activities including identification of titles
for reformatting.

The successful candidate must have a Masters Degree in
Library Science and Certification by the Virginia State
Library Board (or pending certification); considerable
knowledge of technical processing, bibliographic utilities
and local library systems; of serials cataloging, AACR2 and
CONSER guidelines; of US Newspaper Program cataloging
procedures; demonstrated ability to interpret serials
cataloging rules and records; and a working knowledge of
Virginia publishing history. Knowledge of basic desktop
computer applications (database, spreadsheet, Windows 95,
html, etc.) preferred. Must possess the ability to work
independently, as well as effectively as a team member.
Must pass a security background check.
