Assistant Director for Information Acquisition and Organization
in the Ina Dillard Russell Library

Russell Library is the center of research activities at GC&SU.   Library
resources include over 175,000 volumes, 1,100 periodical subscriptions, and
extensive microform holdings.  Approximately 4,000 government documents are
added annually.   The Library also houses the Flannery O'Connor Collection,
University Archives, and other Special Collections.  Primary access to the
library catalog, periodical indexes and full-text periodical databases is
provided via GALILEO (Georgia Library Learning Online), a state-wide
library system.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:   Establishes policies and procedures for the
Information Acquisition and Organization (Technical Services) unit.
Supervises daily activities of acquisition, cataloging, serials, and
processing.  Assists the University Librarian in monitoring the Library's
budget and expenditures.  Participates in Library governance as a member of
the Library Management Council.  Oversees a staff of  three professionals,
two paraprofessionals, and students. Supervises the processing and handling
of gift materials. Serves as a library liaison.  Prepares statistical and
narrative reports as needed.  Some reference service required.  Reports to
the University Librarian.

QUALIFICATIONS: ALA accredited MLS, 3-5 years of progressively more
responsible library experience; broad knowledge of and experience in
cataloging, OCLC or other bibliographic utility.  Supervisory experience.
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED: Second masters.  Experience in migrating to another system.
Experience in an academic setting.

RANK AND SALARY: The 12-month appointment holds faculty rank, dependent
upon qualifications.  Minimum salary is $39,000.  Standard benefits package
includes life, health and disability insurance, and mandatory participation
in the state Teacher's Retirement System or optional retirement system, 21
days vacation, 12 holidays, and 12 days sick leave.
